So here it is, summer is here and mini ridings gone crazy!
The official Tassie mini mx/sx series is now under way. This year’s series got off to an awesome start on the 21st of December. With the first round being held at the Launceston complex a big turn out of northern boys was always on the cards and they didn’t disappoint. With about 60 riders coming from all across the state plus heaps of fans it made for a sick day! Everyone was loving the track that was wrapped in Rockstar and braaap banners even though it was kicking up quite the dust storm by early afternoon as the sun shone and the wind picked up a little. The event consisted of four classes, A and B grade seniors, one junior class and a chick’s class! Each class had 5 races which meant not a lot of time for rest or bike maintenance, you just had to ride with what you had which kept racing interesting! It was good to see a few riders come out of the wood work and hold there own in the A grade class! To check out heaps of pics of the day jump on the braaap website or myspace! The Launie boys clean swept A grade, with only a small contingent of rider travelling from Hobart to a foreign track it made for hard work for the boys from the south, next round in Hobart its going to be a different story!
The festive season and some time off work and school has given everyone a chance to get out and do some more riding than usual which is always good news! There have also been some other cool events in which the tassie boys have been representing, like the indoor extreme event in Melbourne in early December where as usual Brad Smith piloted his maestro to the podium!
Steven Jenkins Tassie’s best Motocross coach has also been working with some young talented mini riders from around the state, doing coaching days teaching the young riders how to smash ruts and ride with technique and style, to make them FAST!
The next few months of sun are going to be hectic! Make the most of daylight saving with an afternoon after work ride, we will be! January 10th will be another sick day of riding down south with the annual 50’s Fest to be held at cygnet, This cool unofficial event always gets a massive turn out of people wanting to have a play on the 50 track or flip the foam pit, the wild party on Saturday nite draws a crowd to. Check out the braaap website for the dates of the next round of racing and caching days. BE THERE! Its going to be mad.

Hey guys, Waterboy here from braaap. We just held our first full on motocross race at our sick track. We had a sick as fun day, she was hotter then hell and the track had more grip than anything! The big boys and the fast bikes got out there first and were bangin’ bars every corner and having a blast! Then we got the good old chicks out there. They lined up to the gate revved the absolute ringer out of the bike, dumped the clutch and shot off the start line. The juniors smashed through the gears to get to that first corner to gain hole shot, and cut sick for the rest of the day. After an action packed day we packed up our bikes and finished off with a little presentation and a couple of cool trophies. The weekend before we had an excellent coaching day at our track with Steve the man, she was hammering down with rain but that didn’t stop us. It was more fun than anything. Most of us picked up a lot of new skills and some of the smallest technical skills that makes us faster through different sections. Our tracks are open from 10:00 am till 4:00 pm every Sunday, and also from 4:00pm till dark of a Thursday after work and school. So come out one day through the week and check it out & put your skills to the test. We’ve also got a flat track just for the kids to learn on. It’s good fun and the whole family can ride.
