THE BRAAAPSTER PRO 50cc IS THE KID’S BIKE

We use many of the same components here as on our braaap superlite bikes. When we set out to design a bike for first time riders for the kids, we wanted the Pro 50cc to smoke to competition both on the track and on the showroom floor. We knew we needed to build a bike that would not only look awesome for the kids, but have top level specs, be very reliable, have tons of configuration options, loads of safety features, and a price point to impress mum and dad.

My MiniMoto in 2013 was set to be a great year. I was asked to ride for a great company from Australia, the guys over at braaap Motorcycles. It was a great experience riding for the Team braaap and the guys!

We got to test over at Milestone MX, they were very helpful in getting the bike all set up for me. When I had an issue one of the guys would help me and get it fixed ASAP. It was like being an actual factory Supercross rider the whole time. Then MinimotoSX came around. Had practice on Saturday which went really good for me. Had the fastest time in my 10″ amateur and 12″ amateur classes and had the 4th fastest time in my expert class. I couldn’t of done it without the amazing braaap Superlite machine I was on. The bike felt so comfortable and had tons of power. I had the great bike and felt awesome after practice.

Sunday came the day of the event and all the qualifying. Qualifying didn’t go as planned and I had a few issue, I was taken out and fell down in a corner. I qualified for both amateur classes. At the night show I had to start on back row due to the bad qualifying. But I made it work and both classes came out in front off of the start. Again I would have issues falling down. This was just not my year at MinimotoSX. When it comes down to it I had one of the best times hanging out and riding for Team braaap!! I would gladly ride for them again. I have to thank the guys over there for all the help and support they had given me!

Killian

The amazing scenic background set the scene for one of the more glorious Learn to Ride days we have held.

A rural setting with caine fields and rolling hills, the generous Redline Motosports crew supplied a complimentary bbq for all riders and parents.

Throughout the day young riders progressed from a 50cc with training wheels to an 88cc on the private motor cross track, the coaching expertise from the braaap crew made sure that all riders followed the braaap 5 step safety program which incudes, braking, throttle control, balance, clutch release and weight distribution.

braaap had its full range of bikes at the ride day with more experienced riders having a ball twisting the throttle of the classic 150cc.

A mother quietly told me she has a bike which is auto and had never attempted to drive a manual car let alone balance a bike and use a clutch at the same time. Within 15 minutes she was blasting around on the pro 125cc changing gears smoothly and accordingly.

No task or talent is too challenging for braaap or Redline Motosports when it comes to customer service or coaching.

We look forward to the next Learn to Ride in November and continuing to offer world class coaching too past, present or future braaap and Redline customers.

Another MiniMotoSX In Las Vegas has passed and another championship has been won by Michael Blose, Team braaap rider. Congratulations to Michael and the team!

This was the 10th Aniversey of the Las Vegas MiniMotoSX held in the New Orleans Arena!

Michael Blose rode his braaap motorcycle into the record books last May when braaap became the first production bike to win a #1 plate at the biggest race in the world for our sport.

Every May our nerves, excitement and frequent flyer points skyrocket as we take the journey from Australia to America to compete with the best riders and manufactures from all over the world.

We land at LA and spend a week preparing.

The first step is to collect our bikes and parts, It’s a mixture of stuff we have left there from last years race and the new bits, the go fast goodies that we have worked on through the year to try and get that little bit extra out of the bike.

For me this is one of my favourite weeks of the year, its all about the track, the bike and getting faster. I don’t get much time through the year to ride hard so I love the opportunity to push the limit’s, we do this at the Milestone MX Park in Southern California. This place is like Disneyland for us, click your fingers and the track is watered, wave the bobcat over and the track is re faced, its full pro level.

The priority is to WIN.

Therefore all our time and energy is prioritised so we are dedicated to helping Michael Blose.

Our Job is to supply him with a bike that can win and a team that can support him.

He has Pauly as his head mechanic along with Gaz as his suspension and fine tune specialist. Blose is an unbelievable tester, making sure every last click on the suspension is right, looking for that little bit of performance that could make all the difference when we head inside the Orleans Arena in Vegas. With lap times at around 28 seconds its extremely important to holeshot, Blose has some brilliant strategies to make sure he holeshots. I’m working with Michael at the moment to get him out here to Australia and teach people what he does, to run Michael Blose riding clinics. After Blose is up and running, it’s my turn to get the bike off the stand and bust out some moto’s. We both run 2 bikes, a bike for the 12” race and the bike for the 10” open class. In Mini Supercross your not restricted by your engine capacity you are restricted by your rear wheel size and your wheelbase. This is why I LOVE this type of racing, its not Bank Balance racing, we won on a bike that retails at $4500. Any one can roll a bike off the floor and be competitive, that’s why our sport is so competitive, so accessible, so fun and so good to watch.

For the first 2 days of preparation I rode my 12” bike, my braaap Factory 190cc.

It’s amazing what a gearing (sprocket) change can do and a few click’s on the suspension to make your bike more stable and faster on the track.

I didn’t get my 10” bike out until Thursday before the race once Blose and all our other guys had finished testing and gone home, this was my favourite afternoon of the whole trip, I had Pauly and Gaz working on me and my bike, looking for speed and comfort and we found both. There is no better feeling than when you just click with your bikes. We got that. We were ready to race.

This year I had my Mum, my sister, Dad, and we had 12 other people on our team supporting us and making it happen. Blose always has the ability and the will to win, this year I wanted to make sure I gave our guys and myself something to be proud of, my focus the whole time was flow. When I get to Vegas, I’m not going to change anything about how I ride or who I am, I know I’ve got some speed I just need to make sure it stands out when it counts. My focus was to get a good start in the World Final. I knew to do that I needed to put down a good lap time, as this is how they pick the gates.

In practice I spent 2 laps looking at the track and then it was GO time. I punched out some good laps. I was happy.

I knew I needed a good start in my qualifier as I didn’t want to be in the LCQ because that meant I would be second row on the starting line come main event time, in Vegas if you don’t get a good start you may as well go home, the race is won in the start and that means your race is set up in your qualifiers, you need a good gate pick, I got that. I qualified well.

It wasn’t with out carnage though, in one of my qualifier races Willy Browning ran into me on two occasions, one time he hit me so hard it broke my brake pedal off my bike. Luckily it wasn’t my leg that took the impact, go and check out how strong the braaap brake pedals are they are 10mm thick! Willy is a professional rider and has won the World Title before. I loved that he ran into me, it gave me confidence, as I knew I was close to the pace.  You wouldn’t run into the slowest guy on the track! So I thought I’m on the radar! I love how hungry the riders are to WIN in the Pro Class, it is win or bin.

Vegas is tight, it’s so close, rubbing is racing, I’m not a get even type racer, I ride my own race, I’m there to get a result and prove to people our bike is the best production bike on the planet. In saying that you neeeeeever forget and nothing feels better than passing someone back who has A, won a world title before and B, pulled an aggressive move on you before. I couldn’t believe my eyes when Willy was battling to pass me in the World Final and left the door wiiiiide open. I thought this is the World Final. Thank you and I gave him a little bit of his own medicine with a nice pass, I think he is still in the cheap seats.

The World final was carnage, people ride aggressive, I have bruises on my legs, knees, shins and my hip. It’s the time you want to put in your best ride, it’s the race everyone remembers. Your finishing position gives you bragging rights for another year. You do what ever you can to get on that podium and man I thought I was close, I was in 3rd for so many laps, I was riding good, I can’t even really remember the race that well I was just focused, I didn’t care if I was getting tired, I didn’t care who I was battling with, I didn’t care who was fast and I didn’t care who was Pro, this is the one race, 12 laps, you lay it all out. I get nervous before I race, that’s how you know you are ready, I sat on the start line and looked down at the names on the line, the places people have travelled from far and wide to come and race, France, Italy, Australia, America, UK if your any one your at this race and then its back to focusing on my race, rule 1, visualising the race, I don’t focus on the outcome as much as I focus on what I need to do to get that outcome. For me it meant a great start, ride super aggressive, make sure my bike is 8ft wide so no one can pass me and be smooth, flow.

I got a great start, I started around 5th and then pushed my way up and found myself in 3rd, I knew I was in this but I didn’t have time to think about that I got 12 laps and 20 riders behind me who want my position. It was time to lay down some of the best laps you have at the same time as finding a rhythm, you can punch our fast laps and fight the bike or you can get into rhythm and wind up. I put my head down and threw 3 good laps together, I remember looking up and Blose wasn’t to far up ahead, I could see them, I was in the running for a podium.

I had to fend of some heavy hitters, my lap times are just that bit off the pace of Blose, Abrigo and some of the other Pro Riders, I’m working on that this year. My strength and fitness was better than its ever been but still I need to improve it. I’m super happy with 4th, I’m proud of our team, our bike, I’m proud of Michael Blose for winning himself and braaap a championship on our bike. I’m blessed to have an opportunity to even line up and race with these guys, but 4th that’s soooooooo close to the podium its not even funny haha.

So we left the Orleans arena super happy, Blose WON a title. Everyone in our team lifted for the event, everyone did what ever it took to ride better than their usual best. I finished fourth in the world title, Toby and Bender Qualified for the 12” Pro Class and did a great job, Killian our wild card, rode so fast I was sure he had an Amateur title in the bag but Vegas will teach you more than anywhere that it doesn’t matter how fast you are in practice, when the gates drop you have to match speed, stamina and turn on your smarts you got to ride smart. Killian got taken out in a qualifier and his night went down hill from there, but that’s racing and Killian put on an awesome show for us and showed huge potential, he is easily top 10 in pro If he turns it on and stays on. Although Killian spent most of his night on the Las Vegas ground he did manage to get smooth and drop to one knee when he proposed to his girlfriend and she said YES! Congratulations guys, I got to thank Killian, Keith, Roger and the whole family those guys have been so kind to us and we had not only the coolest looking pits but the most fun, family of a team.

And then we celebrated, Vegas style.

Toby’s Rundown on Vegas.

All I can say is awesome!

I have just landed back in Australia after competing with the rest of the braaap team in Las Vegas at the MiniMotoSX.  We all had the best time and the whole team lifted to the occasion putting in personal bests all round.  After last year not qualifying for the main I put it to myself to practice more and try to better my previous years bad luck and slow pace. I might add is harder than it seems, I give credit to the guys that win they put in a lot of hard work to get the results they do.

I started my training back in January trying to ride as much as possible and get my personal fitness more to where it should be, running, boxing and exercising probably 3-5 times a week (I was probably unfit as it was haha!) I already have a decent diet so that was pretty easy to maintain. We had a few lead up races and tuning the bike, which was awesome.  Going over to Las Vegas I felt much better than the previous year and my goal, although it may not seem high was to qualify for the main event.  We got to LA and we were all pretty jett lagged, we hung out at the beach and chilled for a day knowing the next day it was all ramping up. The next day we started putting bikes together, Pauly, Bender, Brad and myself. There were 7 bikes in total so it was no small feat, we bought 3 of them over with our checked in luggage in pieces!! It took us probably two days to fully have them together with everything checked and ready to go. Our first day of running the bikes in was at Milestone MX Park, where we spent most of our time the week leading up to Las Vegas.

It was dry and hot there but the track guys do such a crazy job of keeping everything perfect for everyone. The tracks at Milestone get watered 3-4 times a day and groomed when we asked, it was awesome! I was like a kid in a candy store each day haha!

The first two days went well, I was feeling good on the bike and had the triple’s dialed, the only thing left to get right was the whoops (never a strong point for me) Then… disaster struck on the 3rd day of testing I was practicing the whoops after the track guys had made them more like MiniMotoSX style whoops for us (pretty big) I had a lapse in concentration and came off. Spearing my knee into the ground and the bike over me. At first I got up and was a bit shocked but after a bit kept riding for the rest of the day, knowing it was pretty sore. By the next morning I couldn’t walk… It sucked. I went to the track and couldn’t ride, everyone was really supportive but personally I felt a bit disappointed (remembering I spent a few months trying to train for my race and travelled half way around the world just to have a go at this). After a day of moping around and a talk from Pauly I finally got my head back in the game, shit happens, I was here, I had to make the best of it.  On the second day after it happened I could just start to hobble around and with some help of a knee strap and Benders ‘special’ box (no idea what the thing did but it seemed to work) I started walking sort of again. This all happened mid week and we had to race on the following Sunday, so I rested as much as I could and just waited it out.

We headed to Vegas on the Friday, the scenery there is awesome and the riding looks even better!  On the Saturday we had practice, my transponder wasn’t working for lap times but at that point I was just thinking about surviving until race day. That night we went and watched the last round of the AMA Supercross, it was pretty impressive, RV2 had already wrapped up the championship but it was still sick to watch how smooth and extremely fast those blokes are.

Sunday was race day, we had timed practice in the morning to work out gate pick for our heats, we all went pretty well and were all on the front row for picks.  Just before our heat races Mozzy offered some help with my knee, bracing it with tape to try and stop the pain a little and give it a bit more support, the main problem with it by now was that it was just weak, muscle damage maybe but I couldn’t grip the bike very well.  We hit the heat races, I knew these ones had to count. In my first heat race (the amateur 12″) I came out and smashed a holeshot, I can’t explain how cool it is to head into the arena with thousands of people watching in first place!

My lead lasted about a lap and after a collision with a team mate (Go Figure!!) I came over the line in 5th place… QUALIFIED!! Booooom it was the best feeling, after all the crap during the week it had come together. The second heat race was for the 12” Expert class, these guys mean business, it’s hard to explain but racing with these guys is like going into battle, you strap your helmet on and anything goes, block passes, pushing up the inside, even the odd pretty dirty move and to survive you have to match it. The gate dropped and you wouldn’t pick it..  Holeshot again! I lead again for about a lap and came into contact with the other riders and came worse off, the crash landed me out of the qualifying results and I had to go through to the LCQ, we headed into the LCQ and there were around 25 riders in it, I battled through the pack and managed to QUALIFY!! god damn stoked at this point, I managed to qualify for both classes I entered.

Then came the main events, they are held later in the night and have a lot more people packing the stadium, there is an opening ceremony where brad, myself and bender were asked to be introduced to the crowd, which was pretty cool.  The first main was the 12″ Amateur, I had a terrible start (must have used my good ones up on the heat races!) managed to wheel stand off the line and was probably 20th into the corner, I rode the race out and came about 15th I think, to be honest I didn’t ride the best ride I could have and felt a bit annoyed with myself.  Which was probably good because the 12″ Expert was coming up.

For the expert it was the last race of the night for me, everything had come down to it so I needed to give everything I had, 18 hours on a plane, a week of testing and 4 days of getting over an injury wasn’t just going to be wasted LOL.  There were 28 riders on the line and because I was through on the LCQ I had a terrible gate pick, second row behind brad, which completed the flying V with brad, Bender and myself all lining up together. The gate dropped and at the first corner it was hectic, there were riders down we were all dodging and weaving to try and stay out of trouble.  I rode as hard as I could and gave that race 110% in my mind. I have a newfound respect for the guys that race over there, they don’t hold anything back and like I said before it’s like going into battle!  I came out with a 10th place finish.  Holy Sh&t, Stoked!! Great feeling knowing that it all paid off.

The last race of the night was the world final. This saw the likes of Browning, Blose, Smith, Valade and Abrigo line up, there were about 25 riders in the finals representing all the countries that are involved with the race. The gate drops and Blose grabs the holeshot! BOOOOM, we are all on the barriers yelling like 13yr old girls pushing the boys to go out hard. Blose lead for about 5 laps before abrigo manages to get him around a lapped rider, they battle back and forth, meanwhile brad is sitting in 3rd place going at it like a man on a mission, his intensity was something I hadn’t seen before, he stayed in 3rd for around 7 laps before Valade managed to just get around him. Those two blokes we back and forth for the rest of the race, it was awesome. Abrigo was pushing through lapped riders and Blose had a bit of trouble with a few (it’s pot luck where you catchup with them, if it’s on the straight it’s easy or the whoops, but on the corners not so) for some unknown reason (yet to be discovered) a confused Browning jumped in the middle of Blose and Abrigo, which not only caused confusion for the commentators but caused alot of issues for Blose trying to catch Abrigo with only a lap to go. The race finished and Abrigo won! After some confusion Blose second and Valade in third, Brad held 4th!! Great results by the entire team.

Thanks to everyone that was involved with the event this year, my partner for coming along this year and sitting in seat 17 cheering me on, the staff at MMSX for putting on a great event, the team at braaap – Pauly, Brad, G Ray, Annie, Shez, Taylor, Sharna, Bender and a special thanks to Mozzy for strapping me up tight and the words to keep me going, Richard for coming up and helping us with lap timers and vision, Scotty for some awesome photos and huge help and everyone else that I have forgot to mention but you know who you are.

To top the whole trip off I had the privilege of watching our rider Michael B-Boy Blose go back to back with another championship win, it’s was freaking awesome. I’m not sure what was better still watching it the first time last year or watching the second time this year, he holeshots like a champion and led the entire race, didn’t even look like he was going to be challenged. After the race he was commenting on how well the bike felt this year and how much power the motor has, considering we all run stock bikes it’s awesome to showcase just what our bikes are capable of!

After that it was party time… and we did!

Michael Blose Wins World MinimotoSX Title

It was payday for Arizona born professional rider Michael Blose who raced his braaap motorcycle to another championship, leading start to finish on his 190cc braaap.
braaap founder Brad Smith rode his braaap to a 4th place finish in the world title race.

The MiniMotoSX has been running for 10 years, inside the New Orleans Arena, Las Vegas. The stadium holds 5,000 fans and each year the race attracts up to 500 riders who enter attempting to qualify for the 20 positions in the World Final.

 
A professional rider can walk away with $4500 if they can win everything on the night, the racing is Intense. “It’s a mixture of Supercross and BMX, Supercross because we are doing big jumps on a mad made track inside a stadium and BMX because the racing is close thanks to the bikes being light weight with ridiculous amounts of power.”

IN THE WORDS OF BRAD SMITH

Great Day Racing at the Final Round of the braaap Promoted “BASS STRAIT SUPERLITE CHALLENGE” and of course the first Superlite race here in Victoria for some time.

braaap’s mission is to keep the sport growing and with a happy council, governing body, land owner. There was a  great turn out of riders to the first race here in Victoria. Dates for a full series will be released Soon.

The track was set out inside the banks of Tooradin’s “Rutter Park” a perfect venue for racing and spectating.

The track was a simple layout, with a fast section and a tight section, a few doubles, some single jumps, a short few whoops and a finish line corner that mixed up some great racing with 3 rollers in the middle of it.

We want to turn it into a track like our Hobart one, which has big berms, a fun and long whoop section and nice table tops that the stockers or kids can have fun on but the superlite open class bikes can enjoy too.  But we had to make a start, we had to get the first race out of the way and we can start to get the Tooradin track bigger and better each time. Progress is power.

Great to see riders all the way from first timers all the way to the top level guys, Pitbike/Superlite racing is designed to be fun and its awesome to see people bang it out on the track when the gates drop (or the rubber band fly’s! LOL) then come in, high five and have a laugh as soon as the checkered flag flies.

Young Jack Black is a story that sums up one of the reasons we do what we do. Jack saved up for his braaap himself by mowing lawns, Jack picked up his bike the night before the event! (Just enough lawns mowed, just in time, ey Jack!)

Jack rocked up to the race equally as nervous as excited, never ridden the bike and had a ball racing in the Junior Boys Class.

The boys who drove down from NSW, they spent 20 hours in the car together this weekend! What a road trip! Thank you guys for coming down and banging bars, battling the dust and supporting the event. Defiantly winning the prize for best-presented bikes!

Mikey keeping costs down had the angle grinder out squaring up the knobbies on his tyres the night before the event hahaha Seriously. Leave Liam and Mike in the shed together and you never know what their next fine tuning idea will be!

I loved the DEMO Boys class. By far my favorite class.

The kids are way to cool, fierce racing rivals then best mates and hanging out after each moto. The guys are our role models for great sportsmanship.

Semi Automatic 4 strokes with a standard engine are the Ultimate Bike to build skill on as a young person, actually at any age, because it teaches corner speed, you learn technique and lines rather than just flicking the clutch, grabbing a hand full of throttle and hanging on.

An 88cc 4 stroke is a smooth power curve and the racing is much closer, this makes you think like a racer, mix up your lines, ride with technique and style because your corner speed is vital on a low powered 88cc bike, its teaches you to ride!

I’m super passionate about this class and seeing kids learn to ride a motorcycle to its potential before they get thrown on a higher-powered motorcycle’s.

The 10” senior Class had some seriously cool racing Styv Took out the class but not with out some block passing and bar banging, nice ride Styvster!

In the Open Class Reefy cleaned out the cobwebs and was super fast as always.

Robbie Knee came over from Tassie, this kid is the grass track king, won the Tas Superlite title last year and fast becoming one of the best pitbike riders around so there was a fair bit of social media bench racing going on to see, Robbie, Reefy and myself bang it out. That’s why this genre of motocross is so fun – its always close racing! And being a lightweight bike with great power you can throw the things around like a BMX on steroids.

Moto1, both Holeshot kings Reefy and Robbie were in the first corner together and Reefy came out in front.

In typical Superlite style racing it was super close and the passing was tight.

Finished with with Reefman 3^rd, Robby Knee 2^nd and myself 1^st.

In Moto 2 Robbie earned finish of the day crashing over the line in a last ditched effort to pass Reefy for 2^nd.

Superlite riding and racing is Alive and kicking.

With a great turn out at the Tooradin Event, over 60 people Learning to Ride a braaap in Canberra on Saturday also. A tonne of people learning to Ride at Parkes Dealer and 150 people taking test rides and learning to ride a braaap at the V8 supercars in Launceston on Saturday/Sunday. This sport is alive and kicking, lets work together to make the events bigger and better.

Recently we held a Learn to ride day at one of our dealers at Wide Bay Motorcycles in Gympie Queensland! We had an awesome day teaching new people and letting existing riders test out our superlite bikes.
